News \ Nintendo Planning to Release WiiWare Demos

Nintendo of Japan president, Satoru Iwata, has revealed plans to trial demos for a selection of WiiWare games in the Land of the Rising Sun.

The program will be run on a trail basis in an attempt to bring more awareness to WiiWare titles. Apparently, the Wii Shopping Channel is currently only used by gamers in the know. While this would include most of you - reading this - it does not include a large percentage of Wii owners; gamers who don't go out and seek information about upcoming games themselves.

In classic Nintendo fashion Iwata doesn't actually believe demos will help boast sales. The Big N have been reluctant to release demos of their games in the past, despite it being a very successful venture for Microsoft and Sony. At least they're willing to give it a crack now, but it's a shame it won't be for full retail releases. At least not yet.

Doesn't the Wii support 32GB SD cards now? Easily could do it.

It could do it, but I don't think they should do it.

32gb cards are still quite expensive for what little storage you get out of them.

Hmm, actual game demos would be better, but I guess this is better than nothing.

see this is where gamers and companies have a "difference of opinion" While gamers find demos to be the only way they can see if they like a game or not, making the purchase of the game fairer (and we have all regretted / sold back games we bought due to hype) whereas Nintendo only care about sales. So no I would have probably NOT bought LIT (awful AWFUL visuals ala N64 - gameplay too stiff and needed a bit of work) but I am not willing to spend any money on puzzles that I am not sure I will like them (is it just me or cubello is kinda broken as a game?)

Oh AND STOP REMOVING WIIWARE VIDEOS FROM YOUTUBE YOU IDIOTS.

Demos are a great idea. I've bought a few psn games I would never have looked at had i not tried the demos.
I fear it will be as poorly supported as the DS demos though.

    Bhaha same. *high 5s*

But this is a great idea. I wonder how they will do it though...dpwnload a smaller version of the game or just play it via the internet(no actual download required). And I wonder if it will be a timed demo.

    =D

Full retail games don't really need demos, compared to wiiware and vc. If you don't like full retail games you can take it back. Download a digital distribution game and too bad if you don't like it. So this is really good news!
